A Prayer of Thanksgiving For Forgiveness!

Brian Chair

“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much.” Luke 7:47

I light of the season and the fact that I have been writing on forgiveness for the last few weeks, I sat down and wrote a thanksgiving prayer. I hope that you can pray it with me, and may you have a great Thanksgiving!!

“Lord, I am so thankful that I have been forgiven! And greatly at that! I confess that I was not a person with a small debt. My debt was great. I had willingly chosen my way above Your way. I had preferred my own glory over Yours. Sadly, I have even done this after I have believed. Yet, I am always forgiven. This makes me so grateful that my forgiveness is based on Your character and not mine! It is based on Your love for me, and not my love for You!

I know that I did nothing to deserve Your forgiveness...I couldn’t. I also know that Your holy justice demanded a penalty. Yet, mercy found a way for me. Jesus came and paid the price for my sins on the cross, so that I would not have to pay the price in Hell! I know that my forgiveness was not cheap! Yet, amazingly You offer it to me as a free gift.

What is more, You have never brought my past sins up before me as a source of shame. It is as if You have forgotten them. Instead, You remind me of all that Jesus has done for me, and that His righteousness has now been imputed to me. You see me in Christ, as Christ!

In the midst of all the other blessings that are too numerous to count, I can’t thank You enough for forgiveness. In light of that, I know that the Holy Spirit is in work right now to develop Your character within me…and I want to agree! I ask that You give me grace to release to others the same kind of forgiveness You have shown me. In doing so, I know that You will set me free from the traps of offenses that the enemy has set in front of me. I pray as well, that my responses… especially in the hard times, when I have been sinned against…will bring glory to You and point people toward Jesus. I want Your glory to increase in this earth! Use me to do that.

Lord, again, I am so grateful that I have been forgiven. I am grateful as well, that I have been given the grace to forgive others. You are awesome and give good gifts!!”
