Are Only a Few People Going to be Saved?

Luke 13:23-24, "And someone said to him, "Lord, will those who are saved be few?" And he said to them,Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able." One of those in the company of Jesus, as he made his final journey to Jerusalem, asked, "Lord, are there few that be saved? It was the prevalent opinion among the J...

We Have Lost Our Faith in the Transforming Power of the Gospel

Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." Power is the one thing that Rome boasted of the most. Greece might have its philosophy, but Rome had its power. The fear of Rome hovered over the known world that was under the Roman Empire's despotic rule like a dar...

The Politics of Envy

Proverbs 14:30: A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones. Envy is the most malignant passion in human nature. It's like bone cancer in its crippling and deadly effects. Envy leads to resentment, which eventually erupts into violence and rage, malicious mobs, cancel culture, and the elevation of dysfunctional political systems such as sociali...

Upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022, Charles III became King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. My general observation over the last 56 years as a Christian concurs with Randy Alcorn as he states, "I'm convinced that most people view God's typical em...

Did Jesus Preach the Gospel?

Is there enough Jesus in our gospel? Did Jesus preach the gospel? Is the gospel primarily about how we can get our sins taken care of so we can miss hell and make heaven when we die? For the most part, this constitutes the standard approach by evangelicals in defining and declaring the gospel. Without question, Jesus' public ministry began with an announcement of the gos...

Voiceless Vexation

2Peter 2:7, "And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked"(KJV). Peter would call to our remembrance how Lot, the backslidden nephew of Abraham, living in Sodom, daily "vexed" his righteous soul over the lawless deeds that he saw and heard. The word vexed means to torment or grievously pain. Lot had lived such a compromised lifestyle amongst t...

The Tragedy of Loss of Vision

Proverbs 28:19, "Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law." (ESV) The Christian Standard Bible reads, "Without revelation people run wild, but one who follows divine instruction will be happy." The Berkley Version says, "the people fall into anarchy." Blind and deaf, Helen Keller, was once asked what would be ...

The Stewardship of Opportunity

Cols 4:5, "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time." Paul uses the metaphor of the marketplace in Colossians 4:5 where he says in Arthur S. Way translation: "seize every opportunity, like merchants who buy up a scarce commodity." We are to redeem the opportunities that can be grasped for God and His glory. Remember, right now counts forever! 1 Co...
